Snorkeling was the first half of the trip. Everyone had their own snorkeling gear, complete with flippers. We were able to see schools of fish, bright colored "Dory"-looking fish, and even jellyfish.
Henry had a panic attack about the jellyfish until he realized they did not have tentacles to sting. We even had a crab siting. One of the "mates" from the boat said he would catch it for us if we could find it again. Unfortunately he kept hiding himself in the sand, avoiding capture.
We boarded the boat and headed out to sea for our Dolphin Viewing. The sun was shining, the crew was entertaining, the drinks were cold, and the music was good. We made it to the area where the captain said the dolphins had been gathering. It wasn't very long before we had our first dolphin siting, closely followed by many more. The captain said we must have hit their "family reunion". He was even able to get them to follow the wake and several jumped and played in the waves. It was amazing.
After the cruise, we headed back to the hotel, got our beach gear and drove to the beach. We decided to drive to a public beach away from the resorts. It was a great decision. There were very few people on the beach with us. We built sand castles and used our new boogie board in the "yellow"-class waves. Angela had a great time playing with her new camera.
After cleaning up, we went to dinner at Buffalo Jack's for some yummy wings and Wham Bam shrimp. Mmmm...
On our way back to the hotel, we stopped by the resort beach to enjoy the sunset and get our feet in the gulf one more time.
Someone on the beach noticed Chris' Royals hat and asked where we were from. She ended up being a high school friend of one if our church friends. Not only that, her husband went to high school with Angela. The world can be so small sometimes. It was a glorious end to our time in Destin.
