Day 7--Even more hiking

We saved our biggest hike for our last day in the park.  We had originally thought that we would hike to Rainbow Falls.  After talking to a helpful lady at the Visitor Center, we changed our plans.  We decided to hike to Alum Cave (including Arch Rock) and then hike the Grotto Falls trail.

I am so glad we listened to such wise advice.  Alum Cave hike was absolutely beautiful.  It began parallel to Little Pigeon river, went through Arch Rock, through Heath Bald (to view two keyholes in the mountain) and on up to Alum Cave Bluffs (a rock overhang that was an Epsom salt mine at one time).  It was definitely our toughest hike as far as terrain.  It had quite an altitude change and some fun rock climbing (aided by wire cables).

We ended our time in the park with a hike to Grotto Falls.  It was our easiest hike--only 1.4 miles to the falls.  Grotto Falls trail ends behind the falls and allows hikers to walk behind the falls. Two of us even stuck their heads in the falling water.  I'll leave you to wonder who those two might have been.

For our last night in town, we decided to take the kids to the Dixie Stampede.  Greta was so excited that her boys would get to see the show.  She had been to the one in Branson and talked about it non-stop.  It was quite thrilling for her to show everyone "the ropes".  Quite the night, for sure.
