The morning began the way we wished it could have in Kansas City with nice soaking rain. We packed up the car and headed to the Tennessee State Capitol. For those ever planning to visit, keep in mind there is no visitor parking and if you are lucky enough to find a meter they are only good for one hour. The building is Greek revival styled in architecture leaving Greta to ask where the "pretty tall inside part" (Roman-style dome) was. Instead, it had a tower-style top that she didn't find as impressive. She did find it interesting that it is the only capitol that is also a mausoleum. And, yes, we did see the wall marker for the man inside the wall that was responsible for overseeing the building of the capitol. The rain continued for our entire visit so we didn't get many pics of the outside of the capitol.
We left Nashville and headed to Murfreesboro to see Stones River National Park. We learned more about the Civil War and the kids earned a patch and a badge through the Junior Ranger program. Only one more badge to earn before the kids become Junior Civil War Historians in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
During our excursions around the grounds at Stones River, I attempted to take a cute photo of the kids ambling down the trail. The camera made a weird clicking noise and shut off apparently never to turn on again. We ended up spending another vacation evening in a Best Buy (see day four of our Disney vacation). From now on we will have to budget a new camera in our vacation budget every other year. Oh well, at least we have something that will function for the remainder of the week.
We are now checked in to our hotel in Sevierville, TN. All kids are snug in their beds dreaming of hiking tomorrow. Time for me to call it a night and set this Central Time Zone mind to Eastern for the next four days.
